On October 10-11, 2011, Shandong University – ACS Publications：Langmuir and ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces EAB Meetings, hosted by the Key Laboratory of Colloid and Interface Chemistry, Ministry of Education, were held in the central campus in Shandong University, the vice president of Shandong University, Prof. Hongxiang Lou attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.

More than 20 editorsof the two journals including editors-in-chief, senior editors and editorial advisory board members attended the Meetings. Editors from Langmuir included: editor-in-chief, Prof. David G. Whitten, from the University of New Mexico, USA; senior editor, Academician Xi Zhang, from Tsinghua University; executive editor, Prof. Francoise Winnik, from University of Montreal, Canada; Prof. Jianbin Huang, from the Peking University; Prof. Lifeng Chi, from Muenster University in Germany; Prof. Minghua Liu, from Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Prof. Jingcheng Hao, from Shandong University; and collaborative editor, Jo Whitten from University of New Mexico, USA. Editors of Applied Materials & Interfaces included editor-in-chief, Prof. Kirk Schanze, from Florida University, USA; senior editor, Prof. En-Tang Kang from National University of Singapore; Prof. Shu Wang from Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Limin Qi from Peking University; Prof. Chunyan Tan, from Tsinghua University; Dr. Penelope Lewis, the publishing director of ACS Physical Chemistry Division; and Academician Yitai Qian from Shandong University. They all gave oral presentations, so did six professors from the Key Laboratory including Prof. Liqiang Zheng, Prof. Dejun Sun, Prof. Jinhua Zhan, Prof. Xiyou Li, Prof. Baiqing Li and Prof. Jian Yang.

During the Meetings, editors-in-chief, senior editors and editorial advisory board members of the two journals held two seminars. The status , publication scope, ratio of submission to acceptance, paper-review channels and possibility of increasing invited reviews and feature articles were discussed. The international top scientists also discussed interfaces and monolayers at the interfaces, controlled synthesis and preparation of nanomaterials, the new colloidal systems, polymer colloids, dispersion systems, emulsions and foams, biological and medical colloidal system as well as the application of colloidal systems in industry. 35 posters from the Key Laboratory of Colloid and Interface chemistry , Ministry of Education were presented, showing the latest research results obtained in Shandong University.

More than 150 scientists attended the Meetings, including professors and students from the Key Laboratory of Colloid and Interface Chemistry, Ministry of Education, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Life Science, as well as School of Environmental Science and Engineering. The Meetings financially supported by the America Chemical Society and the "985"engineering of Shandong University provided a platform for the exchange and cooperation between nations and industry-university-research.
